Austin “Catfish” Whipple

Austin Whipple, known as catfish to family and friends was was born October 4, 1945 to Vada  (Cook) and Albert Dean Whipple. He passed away on April 13, 2024 at the age of 78.

Austin attended school in Bedford.  He got the nickname Catfish after catching a 25 pound fish at Lake of Three Fires in Bedford. He worked for the Sanitation Department in Bedford.  He later worked for a gas station in Sheridan. He enjoyed many outdoor activities but hunting and fishing was his favorite.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Floyd Nelson and brother-in-law John Shimer.

Surviving are sister Lulu Shimer and many nephews, nieces and friends.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, Missouri.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to service time. Burial will follow in the Gus Cemetery in Gus, Iowa.
